  1. SET BUILDING & SET PAINTING WORKSHOPS: As part of XENI a series of workshops will also be given by a select number of experienced tutors in tandem with an exhibition highlighting the works of the most prolific set designers and builders on the islands as well as two talks happening in conjunction with the same project.

SET PAINTING WORKSHOPS

Mario Paolantonio (Rome) – Set Painting Tutor

Mario Paolantonio is based in Rome, but his work as a set painter took him around the globe, working on spetacluar productions in important opera theatre. He started working soon after finishing his studies at Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma in 1996. Between 1986 and 1990 he worked with the company Scenografia Pace, based in Rome, painting and finishing sets for their prodcutions. From1991 to 1995 he collaborated on many prodcutions with the Laboratorio del Teatro dell.Opera di Roma. In 1995 till 2011 he conducted together with another two partners, workshops at the Laboratorio di scenografia Opera Scene Europa. Since 2012 he went as a freelancer set Painter, working on major italian and international Opera productions and collaborating with a list of set designers and Opera producers.

SET BUILDING WORKSHOPS

Joe Galea (Malta) – Set Building Tutor

Joe Galea started attending the Malta School of Art at the young age of sixteen under the tuition of Harry Alden and Joseph L.Mallia. Between October 1986 and June 1989 he sat for a Diploma in Fine Arts (Painting) under the tuition of Joe Mark Micallef, Joe Casha, Joe L.Mallia and Charles Cassar with whom he had the first experience in monoprint and linoprint. In June 1991 he had the opportunity to further his studies abroad on scholarship at the Accademia di Belle Arti Pietro Vannucci, Perugia and following another two courses at the Pittura Scuola Del Nudo and Techniche Dell’Incisione under the tuition of Bruno Pallialonga. Between 2013 and 2017 he joined the Artistic Printmaking class led by Lino Borg. Joe is involved in many collaborations, from set construction, painting, 3 modelling to creation of props for leading productions that hail from theatre and operas to films and festivals.
