Martina Schembri
Biography
Martina Schembri (b.2006) is a young aspiring actress who loves the theatre.. Martina’s love for the performing arts started from a very young age, where she would enjoy taking part in school plays as well as being part of the school choir. In 2014, she started taking drama and musical theatre lessons at Masquerade to pursue her dream in theatre. In 2016, she then started taking vocal lessons with Julie Zahra, and later in 2020 she joined Masquerade’s Teen Company under the direction of Stephen Oliver. She has recently obtained a distinction in her drama O level and continues to study and learn. Martina is in her last year at the Malta Visual and Performing Arts School and aims to continue her studies in the Performing Arts. She has taken part in productions either at Masquerade or with other companies. Amongst taking part in many singing challenges, came second in Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza Jr (2019) with her song ‘Ċafċifa’ and was again a finalist in 2020. In 2019 she was also part of the children’s choir in Grapevine’s Music production of ‘Ġensna’. She was part of Crescendos Vocal Group and took part in several masterclasses with foreign artists. In December 2018, Martina was awarded ‘Unur Birkirkara’ by Mayor Joanne Debono Grech for her achievements in the Performing Arts. Martina’s dream is to work in the performing arts, and her ability to send a message through writing as well as acting. Through her fascination with history and literature she hopes to write plays and novels.
