Biography

Mark Tonna started his musical career at the age of eleven years, when he formed part of the school choir and guitar group. From folk masses Mark formed his first pop group. Afterwards he was part of several rock bands, until in 1993 he decided it was time to go solo. Mark took part in several local and foreign musicals which helped to boost his singing and acting ability. In 1996, his first CD album called “ Before my eyes ” was out for sale. He wrote the music and lyrics to nearly all the songs in this album. In fact, Mark Tonna is not only a singer, but he is also a musician, composer and songwriter. He wrote several songs for other local singers. In the same year Mark composed the music of his first musical called Jisimni Katarina, a musical about the life and martyr of St. Catherine.
The year after, he did not only compose the music but wrote the lyrics as well of his second musical called Mill-Jasar Ghall-Qawmien. This time, the story of the musical concerned the life of Jesus Christ. He took part in several local festivals including the Song for Europe, International Maltese Song Festival, L-Għanja tal-Poplu, which he won in 1996, and the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza festival, which he won in 2000. He also managed to win the best International Artistic Performance Award in Bulgaria where he represented Malta in the Discovery Festival. Mark performed in several countries abroad which include: Italy, United Arab Emirate, Tunisia, the United Kingdom, Bulgaria, Turkey, the United States of America, Canada and Australia . For four consecutive years Mark Tonna was nominated in the ‘Best Male Singer’ category at The Malta Music Awards.
