We’re Just Getting Started: AUT/WIN Programme 26-27

Summer is over, a new season has arrived, and ten years later, we’re just getting started.

This December, Teatru Malta marks its tenth anniversary with a special week of performances, conversations and new projects celebrating the company’s journey so far while looking ahead to what comes next. We’re also thrilled to launch SIPARJU, a project ten years in the making: a new digital archive dedicated to collecting, preserving and making Malta’s theatrical history more accessible.

The season also welcomes Milo Rau and Servane Dècle with the Maltese presentation of The Pelicot Trials, bringing one of the most urgent works in contemporary European theatre to local audiences.

Following its launch as one of Teatru Malta’s flagship projects in 2026, Għaxra: The Domus Theatre Takeover continues into 2027 and evolves into Studio, il-Mulej, a new initiative named in memory of Mario Azzopardi, known as “Il-Mulej”, one of Malta’s most prolific theatre directors. The programme will give emerging directors the opportunity to develop and stage work at Teatru Domus in Żejtun.

Alongside these major moments, the season brings together productions, international collaborations, emerging artists, youth theatre, community projects, masterclasses and touring work. Highlights include MITI MITI, Trikki Trakki, the Classroom Plays, Studio Francis Ebejer, Każin 60+ and Ġambori, while Trikki Trakki’s own TRUPPA takes an important step forward with its professional debut at the ŻiguŻajg Festival.

Across the season, Teatru Malta continues to create space for new voices, new audiences and new ways of making theatre.
