We’re a small country with a small language, that is to say, one spoken by few people. But that which is ours, is ours. We are also part of the linguistic and cultural diversity that makes up the European cultural space. Drama of Smaller European Languages (DoSEL) was created for us, or let’s say for us and for those who are like us. When this project was started, Teatru Malta couldn’t not be part of it, and wholeheartedly became a key participant. Between 16 and 22 April 2026, we will be hosting DOSEL’s second International Showcase. Just as we went to Slovenia with DRAGO, they will now come to us. During that week, we will be welcoming four of this project’s partners, all of whom will be presenting their own performances, written in minor languages and translated to Maltese and English so our audience can follow along. But we won’t only have performances throughout that week. Behind the scenes, we will have translation workshops and artistic residences for translingual works, training programmes and experimental research about contemporary European drama. The aim is to be able to stage plays on two international theatre platforms later on, always in their original language and with subtitles in the background.
