Are you a woman who was once imprisoned in Malta? Have you ever spent time in prison in Malta? Would you like to explore being part of a theatre production that honours women’s real experiences — past and present?

Teatru Malta is creating a new production based on the real experiences of women in prison — past and present. The theatre show will be created in collaboration with women who have lived that reality.

We are looking for female ex-prisoners who are interested in being part of the theatre performance.

No acting experience needed — just a willingness to explore, create, and share.

What’s This About?

This is a unique chance to:

Have your voice heard
Be part of a professional theatre production with the National Theatre of Malta
Perform on stage and help shape how Malta talks about women and prison
Work in a space that is professional, creative, respectful, and supportive

📆 What’s Involved?

Research and Development workshops between 1st – 5th December 2025 (after 3.30pm): 5 days of creatively exploring the themes through various activities and exercises and conversations in order to work with the writer , the director and the team to create a script.
Rehearsals in spring 2026: a 10-week rehearsal period (mornings in April and after 3.30pm in May) of practicing the show to get it ready for a public paying audience.
Performance in May 2026

You’ll be working with a team of professional artists from Teatru Malta. All participation will be handled with care, and everyone’s contribution will be valued.

This requires full commitment and is paid work
We will create a safe and confidential space
You choose how much of your story you want to share but your openness and contribution are very much needed as the foundation of this creation. We are looking for individuals who are ready to share their stories with the group, and listen to others’ whilst giving insightful contributions on the topic
Although no acting experience is needed, you should have the willingness to work in a creative team, take on direction and perform on stage
