CALL FOR EMERGING DIRECTORS
11.11.25Teatru Malta is inviting emerging theatre directors to apply for its new artistic project exploring plays from across Europe and the Mediterranean.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
In celebration of Teatru Malta’s 10th anniversary, our upcoming artistic initiative will feature a curated programme of 10 plays from around Europe and the Mediterranean, never before staged in Malta. These works will be translated and performed for the first time in Maltese, offering audiences an opportunity to watch a series of important works from theatre traditions under-represented on our stages.
WE’RE LOOKING FOR EMERGING DIRECTORS WHO:
– Have some experience in theatre-making or directing (whether formal or informal)
– Are curious about minimalism, process-based work, and actor-centred storytelling
– Are eager to collaborate with Teatru Malta’s ensemble and artistic team
– Can commit to a 4-week rehearsal process during selected dates in 2026

– A short statement of intent (max 400 words) about why this project excites you – Tell us what draws you to this initiative and what you hope to gain
– You can also send a short video in lieu of a written statement
– A brief bio or CV outlining your past creative work, training, and/or collaborations
– Any links, footage, or creative references to previous work or portfolio.
