VACANCY: HEAD OF TEATRU MALTA

Call for Applications: Head of Teatru Malta – 746/2025
(Within the National Agency for the Performing Arts – NAPA)

Do you have what it takes to steer the national theatre company into its next chapter? Teatru Malta – the beating heart of Maltese theatre – is looking for a bold, strategic, and theatre-loving leader to join our team as Head of Teatru Malta.

This is not just a job. It’s a chance to shape the future of theatre in Malta, work alongside brilliant artists, and take the stage with us – not literally (unless you want to), but as the organisational brain behind the creative magic.

Why Teatru Malta?
We’re Malta’s national theatre company – curious, experimental, and fiercely committed to making theatre that resonates with everyone, from Gozo to Valletta (and beyond). As part of NAPA, our role is to create theatre that dares, inspires, and pushes boundaries. Think of us as both a cultural engine and a playground for new ideas.

Who we’re looking for

Someone who’s as comfortable running the numbers as they are brainstorming big ideas with artists. A cultural strategist, a people person, and a problem solver who can balance creative chaos with solid management. If you love theatre and can juggle budgets, partnerships, and operations with flair, this role is for you.

The Role

As Head of Teatru Malta, you’ll work closely with the Artistic Director and the Director of NAPA to:

  • Lead: Manage the team, operations, and everything that keeps Teatru Malta ticking.
  • Shape the Future: Help plan productions, tours, collaborations, and international adventures.
  • Deliver the Vision: Support the Artistic Director’s creative strategy, while ensuring every production is a success both artistically and administratively.
  • Build Partnerships: Forge new relationships with local and international venues, festivals, and funders.
  • Fund the Dream: Oversee budgets, financial planning, and fundraising initiatives.
  • Reach Out: Drive our education and outreach programmes, inspiring the next generation of theatre-makers and audiences.

This is a public sector position (Scale 4) with a strong salary package, benefits, and the chance to work at the heart of Malta’s performing arts.

What you’ll need

  • A recognised Master’s degree (MQF Level 7) and 4+ years of relevant experience (including 1 year in a management role), OR a recognised Bachelor’s degree (MQF Level 6) with 6+ years of relevant experience (including 1 year in management).
  • A love for the arts and a proven ability to lead teams, manage budgets, and think strategically.
  • A sense of adventure – because this job involves travel, evening performances, and the occasional crisis solved with creativity.

Why you’ll love it

Because theatre is never boring – and neither is this role. You’ll be at the centre of creating extraordinary cultural experiences, working with some of the most innovative artists and thinkers in Malta and beyond.
