Sandra Mifsud

Actress & Dancer

Biography

For several years Sandra has run the representative office of the Royal Academy of Dance in Malta. Having graduated from the University of Malta with a Masters in Arts in Performance Studies (2012), this course propelled Sandra into some exciting projects and ventures.  In 2013, together with Mavin Khoo, she researched and set up ŻfinMalta – Malta’s National Dance Ensemble and became project manager for the ensemble between 2014 – 2015. In 2015 Sandra became artistic director of Opening Doors Association – Sandra had joined the organisation as their first dance group director in 2014. Sandra understood that the arts locally were more comfortable excluding mixed ability artists from training and performance opportunities – it was the aim of this organisation to break through this mould.

Since 2021, Sandra has partnered Francesca Abela Tranter in leading the first ever Dance Festival Malta as part of Festivals Malta. Sandra had worked with Francesca for many years since 1999 as she was part of the original group of dancers forming Contact Dance Company. In 2021-2022 also became more interested in supporting performative projects that carried a social message – particularly environmental. In 2021 and 2022 Sandra managed and produced performances called Automaniacs and H2O Water Magnifico (Ziguzajg Children’s Festival) as well as Moving with Nature (Science in the City) alongside Douglas Comley.

In the last 2 years Sandra has also explored and trained in Yoga and is now a qualified teacher. Sandra has also performed with Theatre Anon on the several projects in the past: Ir-Rewwixta tal-Patallott (1997), Agamemmnon (2005), Ospizzio (2010), Daqsxejn ta’ Requiem għal Leli (2018).
