Biography

Kurt Castillo started learning and working in performing arts at the age of 17. He has worked as an actor with a number of companies such as: Hermann Bonaci Productions, V Squared and Rewind Productions, Curtain Raiser Theatre Troop Malta, Theatre Anon., Maleth, MADC, Unifaun and Studio18. These theatrical performances range from drama such as ‘Agamemnon’ & ‘The Bacchae’, to musicals and comedy such as ‘Grease’ and Shakespeare’s ‘Twelfth Night’, to original pieces such as ‘Il-Ħajja xejn cool ta’ teeneager jismu Julian’ and ‘Inez kienet perf(etta)’ which was nominated for ‘Il-Premju għall-arti’ 2018. He is regularly acknowledged for his interpretation of main characters in TV series such as ‘Delitti Maltin’, ‘Simpatici’, ‘Il-Madonna tac-Coqqa’, ‘La Farfalla’ and ‘Gheruq’. 

He has been awarded a certificate in performing arts from Trinity College of London after having achieved one of the highest distinctions in Europe. He is also in possession of an ATCL Diploma in Speech & Drama Performance also from Trinity College. He has tutored various students focusing mainly on physical theatre – a genre which he finds particularly interesting. He has also lectured at Umuttepe University in Turkey and has given theatrical workshops in the Czech Republic, Turkey and Germany.

Kurt has also hosted theatrical events as well as local TV programs. Such programs include ‘Canteen’, ‘Siesta’ and ‘’Il boghod mid-dar’, which gave him the opportunity to travel all the way to South Africa. Since then he has also worked as assistant producer for other TV programs and featured in commercials both on radio and on TV.

As a dancer, Kurt has worked with various companies such as: YADA Dance Co. and Aceline Song & Dance Co. He trained in Latin American dancing at national level for 3 years and in Modern Jazz and contemporary dance at the College of Jazz Dance for 6 years. He has danced in various entertainment venues both locally and abroad.
